Installation/performance

Descriptif : L’installation-performance a été conçue comme projet qui peut être réalisé dans différents contextes.

Quoique les détails spécifiques puissent varier d’un contexte à un autre, la structure de base du travail et son impact formel et communicatif seront préservés.

Matériellement, la version fournie ci-dessous (WAC * 1 - Galerie T.A.G., Bruxelles) a consisté en la réalisation d’une sculpture en argile, dont le modelage exige environ dix heures.

Aussitôt achevée, la sculpture a été détruite et la vidéo de la performance (l’exécution a été filmé entièrement) a été projetée dans le même endroit en respectant le même angle de cadrage.

Quelques traces de l’action et de son environnement (par exemple le plancher sale, ou l’écran s’accrochant sur le mur) ont été laissées en place afin de rappeler la continuité entre ce qui était arrivé et ce que l’on montre ou décrit, dans le but de souligner la connexion essentielle (vitale) entre la réalité <objective> et sa dimension symbolique.

What About Creation

The installation-performance was conceived during my residence at the Museum Burganov (Moscow – Russian Federation) as a project to be replicated in different contexts. Though the specific details may vary from one context to another, the work’s basic structure and its formal and communicative impact will be preserved. Indeed, my action intentionally utilizes the code of rituals, i.e. provides the theatrical reproduction of a given fact, event, myth or archetype.  As much as on the stage, all what takes place through the performance is materially false, and all is symbolically true, real. Materially, the version provided below (WAC # 1 – Galerie T.A.G., Bruxelles) consisted in the realization of a clay sculpture, whose modeling required about ten hours. As soon as completed, the sculpture was destroyed and the performance’s video was shown within the same place and from the same shooting’s angle.  Some traces of the action and its environment (e.g., the dirty floor, or the screen hanging on the wall).
